Motorcycle Insurance
Riding a motorcycle, whether solo or with friends, offers a unique thrill. Whether you're embarking on a road trip with a touring bike or simply cruising around town on a scooter, motorcycling comes with its own risks. Motorcycle insurance can provide protection for you and others in the event of an accident while you're riding.

Many of the coverages offered in a Motorcycle policy are similar to those in an Auto policy (Liability, Collision, Comprehensive, etc.), but there are also some coverage options unique to Motorcycle insurance that are important to consider:
- Accessories coverage is designed to protect any custom parts and equipment added to the motorcycle, whether by the dealer or the owner. Since it can be hard to distinguish between stock and customized parts, especially when buying a used bike, many insurance providers include a default amount of Accessory coverage (typically around $3,000) when you purchase Comprehensive and/or Collision coverage. Additional Accessories coverage can usually be added, with a maximum limit often reaching $30,000.
- Roadside Assistance coverage offers peace of mind, ensuring that help is just a phone call away if your motorcycle becomes inoperable. Most insurance providers offer this coverage for both mechanical breakdowns and accidents. Roadside Assistance can assist with delivering fuel, jump-starting a dead battery, or towing the bike to the nearest licensed repair shop.
- Uninsured Motorist coverage, or UM/UIM, covers your injuries if the person at fault in an accident lacks insurance or has insufficient coverage to pay for your medical expenses. This coverage can be costly for motorcyclists, as injuries are often severe and medical bills can add up quickly. However, it ensures that you won’t have to cover those expenses out of your own pocket.
Do I Need To Wear A Helmet When Riding A Motorcycle
Helmet laws vary by state, but even in states where wearing a helmet isn’t required, it is strongly recommended. Helmets have been proven to greatly reduce the severity of injuries in motorcycle accidents, whether you're riding a sport bike or a scooter.
Is Motorcycle Insurance Expensive?
Several factors influence the cost of motorcycle insurance, including where you live, your driving history, age, marital status, the type of motorcycle you own, whether you own a home, and even your credit score.
